But our position has not been achieved overnight and with ease. It has been powered by hardwork, sacrifice, blood, lives and the efforts of every hawker, agent, reporter, photographer and desk In 1948, when Late Lala Jagat Narain gave independent India what he termed ‘An Independent Newspaper’, he wanted it to be free to criticise, appraise and apprise the public of the happenings and events as they unfolded day after day. We are proud that we have been able to uphold the traditions and values that formed the foundation of the newspaper at its inception. The founders made The Punjab Kesari Group a mouthpiece against corruption, nepotism and misuse of power and a forum for redressal of people’s problems and grievances. The group never did flinch in giving the reader the truth. This was due to the group’s resoluteness. Thus the image of the newspaper as a bastion of righteousness was established in the mind of the reader.
The owner family and the organisation always had its heart in the right place. Besides a whole host of charitable initiatives, the Punjab Kesari Group has been actively involved in the rehabilitation of terrorists victims the country over irrespective of religion or caste. The group’s relentless drive against separatism and terrorism in the 80’s and 90’s under the leadership of Sh. Vijay Kumar Chopra is now legend. Be it in Punjab or Jammu Kashmir, the family and the organisation has been in the forefront for the integrity of the country and to protect the citizens With the mission to make people's voice heard and to take to the authorities that be, the predicaments of the people, we are the largest and the most trusted publishing house in this part of the country.
